Welcome to Hurt/Comfort in romance – a term I found out about when I began to write fan fiction *mumbles mumbles* years ago. My first ever fan fiction featured a man on the run who’d been shot and the doctor he kidnaps to help him.
One definition of Hurt/Comfort is – A genre of fan fiction in which a character receives comfort from another after or while suffering injury, illness, or a traumatic experience.
Always, Single Dads 4, has a strong hurt/comfort theme, and also The Ranchers Son which has a strong amnesia storyline and which will always be one of my most favourite of all my books 🙂
Always
Lives change in an instant, but with family found and forever love, there is always hope.
Impetuously putting his life on the line, Adam saved a child trapped in a car wreck and suffered career-ending injuries. Living with chronic pain, and at his lowest moments, he had friends who wouldn't let him give up, a family who had his back, and even though his future was different from what he'd always planned, he at least had hope. When Cameron and Finn land on his doorstep, he never dreamed that he would fall in love with the small family or that maybe he'd get to be a hero again.
Cameron goes from being a devoted husband to a single dad overnight. With his neatly planned future in ruins, he will do anything to make a new life for his son, even if it means moving to the other side of the country. Renting a room from Adam is the first step in making a home for him and Finn, but falling for the former firefighter was never part of the plan.
The shadows from Cameron's past might take a long time to touch this fragile future, but will he have to face the consequences alone when they do? Or will there always be hope?
More info →The Rancher’s Son
A man without memories and a heartbroken cop who never gave up hope.
Waking up in the hospital after a brutal beating, John Doe has no memory of who he is or who attacked him. The police find no clues to his identity, and he can't recall anything useful—except for the name Ethan and a recurring image of a place from his dreams: Crooked Tree. These two cryptic words are his only lead.
With his family at the center of a loss, Detective Ethan Allens has never stopped working on the cold case of two boys who vanished twelve years ago. When a report with potential new leads crosses his desk, Ethan heads to the hospital. The man he finds isn't his brother, but he holds the key to unraveling the mystery of the past.
As they delve into a web of forgotten memories and hidden truths, they must confront the real demons of the past. Against all odds, a connection forms between them, but if they find the truth, will it destroy their future?
Set against the rugged backdrop of Crooked Tree Ranch, Montana, this is a story of hope, resilience, and unexpected love.

I’m currently reading a hurt/comfort book. It’s bringing up all the emotions that make me avoid many books like this unless I am looking for a good cry. The one thing I can say is I always note who has written an excellent story because while I feel wrung out and know that I won’t be likely to reread a book, I still recognize that excellent storytelling and the author’s ability to pull emotions out of me. I read The Rancher’s Son years ago and it was definitely one of those stories.

I recently read a hurt/comfort book from Jason Collins titled Scars. It was really good even though that’s not my favorite sub genre of MM fiction. I love fun, light-hearted MM rom coms and straight to gay. And pretty much any type of MM with lots of sexy times. Those are awesome.
I’m headed to Montana at the end of May, so I’m setting up my kindle for multiple Montana related MM romance that I can read on the plane and when we are on the ranch, since the internet is so spotty. I’m looking forward to reading The Rancher’s Son.
