I grabbed a juice and snacks and settled into the media room with my phone.
I needed answers and maybe my phone could help, so I went into incognito mode in my browser—just in case—and began typing in questions.
Am I gay? That returned way too many answers and I already knew what I was—I just needed to frame my new life with that knowledge. I was gay, I was into boys, and mostly I was into Soren.
Wait… I pulled up the browser and typed in a new question: Can I just be gay for one person?
Several answers came up to that one, talking about the spectrum of sexuality and I considered each one carefully. Was I attracted to Soren because my emotions were all over the place? Was it just me wanting to experiment? Or was this thing with Soren because I thought I hated him, and it turns out he’s not a bad guy? Maybe it was because his dad was Tennant Madsen-Rowe? That last thought made my chest tighten—Soren might well be related to Tennant, but that wasn’t anything to do with it. I recalled my reaction the first time I saw James Bryden in Math—he was a jock, a footballer, cocky, self-assured, and I’d looked at him with something akin to awe. He was perfect, he was my dream, he was everything I thought about until the same day Soren started at Chesterford.
