I have an entire series based on the concept of witness protection – the Sanctuary Series. With nowhere left to turn these heroes have witnessed a murder and need somewhere to hide. They need protection, or somewhere to hide to keep them safe, but often become the heroes in their own stories. Others, like Justin in A Cowboys Home, have killed for their country, and have nowhere left to go but home. In Last Marine Standing the political climate has changed and what was once sanctioned black ops has now become a crime, and the kill team is being murdered one by one. With nowhere else to turn, these men have no other choice but to go into hiding–waiting until the moment is right to take down the bad guys, I love this trope so much, and in Winter Cowboy Micah has to hide his sister after she kills her abusive husband–he will take the blame for it, anything to keep his sister and her son safe.
