“You couldn’t shave?” Lennon grumbled as he tracked me from head to toe, checking for anything I might wear that wasn’t ‘on brand’. From the official T-shirt, to the sunglasses perched on my head, to my watch and the socks and sneakers on my feet, everything that I wore had to be connected to our sponsors. Sponsorship was so integral to Formula One that I’m surprised someone wasn’t sponsoring my jersey boxers, although if a picture of me and my underwear ever made it online, you can bet my other sponsors would complain about the lowering of standards.
It was a fine line.
It occurred to me that when Archie and his abs finally gets a seat as a Formula One driver, maybe he’d be the person who attracted a sponsor for his underwear. The thought made me smile as I imagined huge billboards of Archie in nothing but underwear.
“Stop smiling. It’s not funny that we are going to be late.”
“That wasn’t why I was smiling.”
He huffed. “Why didn’t you shave?”
“Because, you only gave me five freaking minutes to get ready.” I held my hand out for my driver lanyard, which Lennon gripped as if the damn thing was going sprout legs and attempt to escape. He passed it to me and watched me carefully in case I placed it down and forgot it.
Sue me, I’d only ever done that once. Or twice.
