“I wanted to let you know that the final guests in the wedding party have left.” Bryan referred to his clipboard as if he just wanted to check that fact one more time. “I’m sorry,” he said.
“Everyone?”
“Yes.”
“Even Cole?”
Bryan cleared his throat. “Yes.”
That answer was enough to know that my former fiance, his family and entourage, and my few work friends who apparently owed their loyalty to Cole and not me, had left the building.
“Oh.” I wish I knew what to say. “S’okay. He left the champagne,” I observed, and hugged the bottle. “And balloons.” I stared at the boxes of labelled bottles. “I guess it’s all mine now,” I observed, and then let out a snort of laughter. I might not have a wedding, or a fiance, or anyone here to hug me and tell me it was okay, but I had champagne, and out in the main room there were roses and pretty twinkling fairy lights.
They were mine as well.
My cell vibrated with a notification, and I peered at the screen, wondering if maybe Cole was regretting leaving, but it was just Patrick trying to reach me. Again.
