“Soren is the one who needs his ass kicked,” Jonah said bravely after I’d warned Miles to shut up with just a glare. At least Jonah was on my wavelength, because none of this was funny. Soren was the one person in this school who didn’t seem to give a shit who my dad was, or whether or not I could buy and sell Soren’s new dads five times over. He fronted me at every given opportunity, faced me down in the hallways, hip-checked me on the ice, and worst of all, he reveled in all of it, with his huge dark eyes and his expressive smile and his, also ridiculous, wavy hair flying this way and that.
Had he not heard of product?
And what was it about his posse that they all lacked the ability to dress for success? Soren’s tie had been crooked, his jacket askew, and as I passed the windows that looked into the science block, I straightened my own tie and brushed down my jacket. Image mattered. Money mattered. All of that led to success.
I was going to be someone.
Do something important.
