Oh my this is another hard one. You can't beat the entire Legacy series for ultra-angst, but I guess I can't just say the entire series as my answer for three books… LOL… (It was worth a try)
Kyle (Legacy 1)
This covers the entire series, Kyle, Gabriel, and Daniel. The three abused boys grown up and finding their new lives. Kyle is book 1 and he is such a strong man. To have gone through what he went through, and to come out the other side and even finding love? That is my idea of a perfect angsty story. But the whole series is an angst fest of great proportions and it broke my heart to write each book.
The Ranchers Son (Montana 2)
This has to be one of the angstiest books I have ever written. Adam has lost his memory, beaten near to death, and finally found by Ethan. Oh my. I could have easily had Adam's memories return in a rush, but they don't, and I lost myself in writing a book about a journey that was painful but real. I love this book. I love Adam so much, and Ethan who is so patient and loving. Le sigh.
The Ex-Factor (Bodyguards Inc 2)
Did you know this book was supposed to be light and fluffy? It was supposed to be a tongue in cheek look at reality shows and actually ended up being an intense look at abuse. One scene that will stay with me forever, is Ben finding Daniel curled up in the shower at the hotel – it still makes me well up.
Books that nearly made the top three
Texas Fall (Texas 6) – poor Riley
Back Home
Winter Cowboy (Wyoming 1)
Face Value
And of course, the best most angsty of them all, The Christmas Throwaway, but that would appear on every list I do for one reason or another.

Lost in the system and with three years on the streets marking every inch of his body, Jason Smith is scared. His life is an evil mess of hate and despair, and even the offer of a fresh start and a clean bed isn’t enough for him to feel safe. Until Kyle comes into his life and shows him that it’s okay not to be in control.
For these broken men, Legacy Ranch offers more than a place to live and work.
It offers hope.

Detective Ethan Allens has never stopped searching for the two boys who vanished. When a report lands on Ethan’s desk that may give new leads, he jumps at the chance to follow them up. The man he finds isn’t his brother, but it’s someone who could maybe help him discover what happened twelve years ago.
What neither man can know is that facing the very real demons of the past could destroy any kind of future they may have together.
The Ex Factor (Bodyguards Inc. #2)
Kindle US | Kindle UK | Kindle CA | Kindle AU |Kindle FR | Kindle DE | KOBO | B&N | iTunes | Smashwords
When Bodyguard, Ben Collins, finds Daniel Lincoln in a room, hiding and hurt, he doesn’t immediately think Daniel is the victim of abuse. Daniel is good at pretending and being a finalist in a TV singing competition he seems like he has it made.
But something about Daniel calls to Ben’s need to protect and he hands Daniel a card to contact him if ever Daniel needed help. Abruptly, after one frightened phone call from Daniel, Ben is racing to Daniel’s aid and what he finds is a horror he can’t imagine.
Daniel is trapped in a relationship where anger and controlling hate are the only emotions he is given. When his boyfriend crosses the line and leaves Daniel vulnerable and broken there is only one man that he wants to call.
The sexy bodyguard who promised he could help him.
Definitely good books to read.🙂
I love, love love the Legacy books, especially Kyle and Gabriel, because they are SO well written and after reading them I understood depression and survivors of abuse so much better.
The Rancher’s Son is the book from the Montana series I reread most often. It’s simply great.
I have read The Christmas Throwaway in summer – that’s how much I love this book. It’s good for the soul.
