Wow, what a film.
I can’t recall the last time I cried at a film that wasn’t blatantly an unhappy or dramatic ending (Titanic, The Fox and the Hound, both films made me bawl!).
The tears I shed when I watched Rocketman however, just happened. I didn’t even realize I was crying. I’m not a huge Elton John fan, although I number Your Song, and Song for Guy, in my top twenty songs ever. BUT, this isn’t a story just about the larger than life character that I shied away from in the 70s.
This was about a small boy who didn’t know love, who was lucky to escape the AIDS epidemic, who was used, fought back, wanted love, and found it with his best friend, who would never be more than that.
It was a rock opera in the very best way, brotherly love, hope, talent, and above all emotion in everything.
Highly recommended, and kudos to Taron Egerton & Jamie Bell, not to mention Richard Madden – if you’re an MM fan then you may come away wishing you could slash any and all of these three! LOL…
