I’m starting a new feature here called RJ’s Coffee Corner! I’ll have a guest pop in to share information on a sale or have a contest. Let’s welcome Layla Reyne, who’s offering a FREE book for the entire month of June!
Howdy, folks, and thanks to RJ for letting me pop into the corner today to tell you about my new release, King Hunt!
If I’m new to you, I’m Layla Reyne, and I write LGBTQIA+ contemporary romance (sports and foodie) and romantic suspense. My stories, whether they revolve around athletes, chefs, assassins, bounty hunters, or federal agents are filled with adrenaline and swoons, big found families, food descriptions that will make you run to the pantry, and LGBTQIA+ folks living their best lives. Perfect Play, my latest romantic suspense series, has all of those things, plus a swaggering cowboy cyber agent and a widowed single father who team up to catch a common enemy. And by team up, I mean enter into a marriage of convenience. Bet I don’t need to tell you romance readers how fast things turn real.
Here’s a little excerpt from King Hunt, which is out now and completes Marsh & Levi’s trilogy!
“It can’t be morning yet.” Levi tossed an arm over Marsh’s waist and snuggled against his back. “Turn off the alarm.”Marsh flung out an arm the direction of the offending noise, but before he could reach the phone, it mercifully silenced itself.Which his alarm would not do.It rang again, the screen lighting up the dark room.Levi immediately tensed, the same realization striking him. “Whose phone?”“Mine.” Marsh stretched for the bedside table and plucked his phone off the charger. Wagner’s name lit the screen. He answered the call and flipped it to speaker. “Wags, what’s going on?”“Catherine will make bail within the hour.”“Bail?” Levi shot up beside him. “When was it set? It’s the middle of the night.”“Her lover, the minister of interior, pulled some strings. She’s going to be released into his custody.”“They’ll run,” Marsh said.“No shit,” Wagner replied. “I can tie things up in paperwork long enough for you to get down here.”“We’re on our way.” Marsh ended the call and tossed his phone back on the table. So much for their reprieve.Levi’s rough and ragged words shattered the peace for good. “You know you can’t come with me.”“I know.” They had planned for this potential turn of events; a contingency they’d been prepared to exercise. Catherine seemed to genuinely like Levi. If there was anyone who could turn her, it was Levi, but in order to do so, he needed to go it alone, at least to start. Alone left Levi the most options for how to play this with Catherine, how to move her into the position they needed. Professionally, Marsh got it, but personally, it didn’t make it hurt any less. Sending his other half into danger was still sending his other half into danger. And without having his back, breaking promises he’d sworn to keep. “It’s just…” Marsh flitted his hand, the one with the ring on it. “We’re partners.”In every sense of the word.Levi caught his flailing hand and laced their fingers together. “Funny how that happened so fast.” He lifted their joined hands and kissed the back of Marsh’s. “Trust your partner. Your husband. I can handle this.”He whipped his gaze to the side, gaze clashing with the determined blue one that was so close. “I do, completely. You are the best agent I’ve ever worked with. But you’re also my husband. The last thing I want to do is let you walk out that door alone.”Levi leaned forward and kissed him softly, lips brushing as he spoke. As he made his own promise. “I will bring my heart home to you.”
