Flabbergasted is the best emotion that I can use to describe how I feel after reading RJ Scott’s newest release What Lies Beneath: Lancaster Falls Book 1. This storyline had everything that I love in a suspense tale; mystery, drama, hidden town secrets, a possible murder or murderers, lies, conspiracy and two men who are caught in the middle— thrown together by chance but seem to be the anchor that each other needs.

This is the first book in the new Lancaster Falls series and it’s an excellent start. The characters are compelling, the mystery is interesting, and the small town atmosphere has a moody/dark vibe that makes you just know something evil is lurking under everything…not just the lake that’s going down thanks to the intense heat.

I am definitely recommending What Lies Beneath, especially if you’re a fan of cops, mysteries, and suspense. You’ll get caught up in the story and characters, and you’ll certainly get excited to read book two. I know I can’t wait!

What Lies Beneath (Lancaster Falls Trilogy #1) by R.J. Scott is a delicious dive into the first installment in a three part murder mystery series. Told from two points of view and grounded so thoroughly in small town politics and “in your pocket” interpersonal relationships that you feel both the charm and the suffocation of the Lancaster Falls atmosphere immediately.

The descriptions set the tone, worthy of the horror writer that Chris is himself. The pace RJ Scott sets for her characters and plot brisk and often heartstopping. This is going to be one addictive trilogy and I’m almost, I said almost sorry I didn’t wait until they were all done, so I could binge read all the way through. Now I have to wait until fall because where this stopped? Argh! Perfect…if you love frustration. Yes, I need that next story!

Welcome to Lancaster Falls, Pennsylvania where the hottest summer on record shakes up this sleepy little burg exposing some long-held secrets. What Lies Beneath by RJ Scott is an epic mystery with a budding and beautiful romance expertly interwoven.

Bones, an unsolved mystery, corruption, abuse, and small-town secrets make ‘What Lies Beneath’ a fast paced and “on the edge of your seat” mystery/thriller.

Oh wow! This is such a brilliant start to a new series! This atmospheric murder mystery is a huge departure from anything else I’ve read by RJ Scott and it’s a wonderfully eerie slow burn suspense.

There is a definite Scandi Noir feel to the book with the claustrophobic small town America setting reminding me of the TV show True Detective.
