Die größte Reise ist nicht von England in die Staaten. Es ist die, die zwei Männer unternehmen, um einander zu finden.

Sebastian Brown ist auf einer Mission, die Arizona Raptors zu retten und einen Schwur zu erfüllen, den er einem Freund auf dem College gegeben hat. Entweder das oder er ist im Urlaub. Er ist sich noch nicht ganz sicher, ob er sich schon entschieden hat. So oder so ist von England in die trockene Wüste Arizonas zu reisen nicht unbedingt ein Picknick, vor allem nicht wegen der Zweifel und Sorgen, die er im Gepäck hat. Er hat schon die schlimmsten Firmen rehabilitiert, aber angesichts der Herausforderung, den Ruf eines Hockeyteams zu verbessern, das alle zu hassen scheinen, weiß er, dass er einiges an Arbeit vor sich hat.

Fokus ist der Schlüssel, aber das ist leichter gesagt als getan, als Seb von dem faszinierenden Alejandro aus dem Gleichgewicht gebracht wird. Sebs gesamter Marketingplan hängt daran, Alex zu einem Musterbeispiel für Gleichheit und Fair Play zu machen. Aber Alex mit seiner absoluten Hingabe zum Spiel und seinen dunklen, geheimnisvollen Augen ist stur, eigenmächtig und will nichts davon wissen, der Fokus des Teams zu sein. Und, was das Schlimmste ist, er scheint Seb überhaupt nicht zu mögen. Es braucht Sebs ganze Selbstbeherrschung, um seine Finger von Alex zu lassen, aber dann geraten die Dinge außer Kontrolle und Sebs Leben wird vielleicht nie wieder wie zuvor.

Alejandro Garcia hat hart dafür gearbeitet, dorthin zu kommen, wo er jetzt ist. Als Sohn mexikanischer Einwanderer hatten seine Geschwister und er es in diesem Land, von dem seine Eltern als neue Heimat geträumt hatten, nie leicht. Als echter Sohn von Arizona war Alex immer der Exot auf dem Eis, aber er wird keine so dämliche Sache wie seine Herkunft seine Träume ruinieren lassen. Er ist jetzt ein Raptor und er hat vor, all sein Training und das College-Hockey voll auszunutzen. Hart zu arbeiten ist für ihn ganz normal. Es ist etwas, das seine Eltern ihm schon als Kleinkind eingetrichtert haben. Da er nur einer von einer Handvoll Latino-Hockeyspielern ist, arbeitet er mit noch mehr Entschlossenheit auf seinen Erfolg hin. Seine erste Saison als Profi hatte einige Höhen aber viel mehr Tiefen, aber Alex ist ein sturer junger Mann und Versagen ist keine Option.

Als die Raptors Probleme haben, nicht nur ihr Team, sondern auch ihre inneren Werte neu aufzubauen, stellt Alex fest, dass er sich zu einem Freund eines der Eigentümer hingezogen fühlt, einem großen, schlanken Briten mit dem Gesicht eines Engels und einem Akzent und einer Attitüde, die ihn verhext und verwirrt. Sebastian ist alles, wovon er dachte, dass er es niemals wollen würde, aber er kann den sexy, älteren, Spaß liebenden Mann nicht aus seinen Gedanken verbannen. Wenn es je einen Mann gegeben hat, den er nicht mit nach Hause zu seinen Eltern bringen kann – nicht, dass er überhaupt einen Mann mit nach Hause bringen kann, weil er tief im Wandschrank ist – dann ist es Sebastian, aber Leidenschaft kennt keine sozialen Unterschiede, kein Alter und keine internationalen Grenzen. Eine Bedingung im Testament seines Vaters zwingt Mark zurück in die Arme einer Familie, die ihn verstoßen hat und macht ihn zu einem Drittel zum Eigentümer eines Hockeyteams, das kurz vor dem finanziellen Ruin steht. Er schaut sich Hockey nicht einmal an, mag es auch nicht und will nichts mehr, als wieder zurück nach New York zu gehen. Dann ist da noch der neue Coach, ein sturer, eigensinniger, irritierender Mann mit einem Überlegenheitskomplex und fragwürdigem Musikgeschmack. Sich mit Rowen anzulegen, wird zur neuen Normalität, aber dazu kommen auch leidenschaftliche Diskussionen und eine alles verschlingende Lust.

Als ihm angeboten wird, eines der schlechtesten Teams der Liga zu einem zukünftigen Mitbewerber um den Cup umzubauen, kann Rowen sich diese Gelegenheit nicht entgehen lassen. Noch nie in seinen zwanzig Jahren Hockey hat er ein Team gesehen, das so schlecht geführt wurde oder Spieler, die so voller Feindseligkeit und Engstirnigkeit sind. Aber etwas an diesem Team und dieser Stadt überzeugt ihn, seine Ärmel hochzukrempeln und anzufangen, alles auseinanderzunehmen. Wenn nur Mark, einer der drei Geschwister, denen die Raptors jetzt gehören, nicht so verdammt stur und doch so verdammt reizvoll wäre, könnte sein Job leichter sein. Es sieht nicht so aus, als ob einer von beiden nachgeben möchte, aber eine Nacht in einem dunklen, abseits gelegenen Hotel verändert alles.

All seine anderen Aspirationen sind durch harte Arbeit, Entschlossenheit und reines Talent wahr geworden. Jetzt wird er sein Land vor der Welt vertreten und der Druck beginnt, sich aufzubauen. Er hat auch gerade wieder einen verhassten Rivalen aus einer dunklen Phase seines Lebens getroffen. Dazu noch die Bürde, gegen seinen Ehemann und Stiefsohn antreten zu müssen und Ten verspürt den Drang, perfekt zu sein.
